In a cluttered digital landscape, email marketing continues to be one of the most effective channels to ensure views, engagement, and conversions. With a consistently high ROI, it’s the reliable option marketers utilize to guarantee success. In fact, email marketing was considered the most effective channel for 72% of brands. Why does it work and how should you use it? Lets look at it together.

Bypass the Noise

2026 is noisy. With large amounts of content everywhere you turn, it can feel complicated to stand out from the crowd. In the wake of frequent algorithm changes, you can no longer guarantee your content is reaching most of your audience. What’s a brand to do?

Email Marketing allows you to bypass the noise and deliver your content straight to a customer’s inbox. With email being used by old and young alike, it’s a consistent communication channel regardless of age, technology changes or adaptations. Email has watched digital trends come and go, standing firm when others fell. People know it, trust it, and use it.

Email marketing gives you access to customers who have opted in to receive communication from you. Unlike promotions and suggested content that pops up, email marketing involves a customer giving you consent to regularly communicate with them. This style of communication builds trust with your audience and yields higher engagement from customers.

Customize and Automate

Email marketing allows a business to leverage data to create highly customized content for customers. Data points such as purchase history, location, age and gender can be used to create highly personalized emails for your various audience segments. This allows you to deliver emails that create a sense of connection between a brand and a customer. Regular communication combined with personalized content keeps customers engaged, leading to greater conversion rates.

Even a simple personalization, like including a recipient’s name in the subject line or email body, can increase open rates by almost 30%. More advanced strategies take it a step further, using targeted campaigns based on past purchases to recommend new products or sending reminders for abandoned carts.

Sending automated messages allows for another layer of customized content. These messages are triggered based on certain conditions being met. For example, an automation can be as simple as a welcome email that is sent when customers subscribe, or the abovementioned abandoned cart email sent when a customer fails to complete a transaction. Automated emails help marketers be more efficient, increase their ROI, and maintain consistent communications with customers. It is important to note that these are different than drip campaigns when emails are triggered, sent over a specific time frame, and in one order. Both are effective tools but have different purposes.

Measurables Matter

How do you determine if your email marketing IS the golden ticket to success? Tracking quantifiable data helps you analyze the results of your campaigns and can offer suggestions for improvement. Metrics can be used as KPIs on your content’s delivery, engagement, and revenue.

Since 50% of emails end up in spam folders, it is important to keep track of your delivery AND deliverability rates. Delivery rates note whether or not the email was received or if it bounced. Delivery and bounce rates can be early indicators of the quality of your email data. Deliverability rate is the email’s ability to reach an inbox rather than a spam folder. Boost your deliverability rate through email authentication and one-click unsubscribe links. If your customers don’t receive or see your email, there’s no chance to engage with the content you’ve curated for them.

Engagement rates, such as open, click and unsubscribe, provide insight into how your audience is consuming content. This directly impacts business but is not the same as revenue. For example, click thru rates do not directly yield purchases, but they can let you know if your content is moving people towards future purchases. These rates allow you to take the temperature of how your content is received, and course correct as needed.

Conversion rates, revenue per email (RPE), and email ROI are all ways to help determine if your email is helping to achieve goals based on revenue. Revenue and growth are the key factors your boss and business stakeholders care deeply about.

Bottom line, use metrics to make real time assessments and corrections. Metrics are the end of the line process by which you can determine if your efforts in email marketing are paying off.

Email will remain one of the best marketing channels for success. Capitalizing on your audience through consistent direct communication that is tailored and automated will build trust and loyalty. Assess your content through metrics and adjust as needed to move your messages to successful campaigns in 2026.

For many businesses, digital marketing is essential to success. Whether you are running a small business or leading a global company, digital channels offer powerful ways to reach your audience, increase visibility and grow sales. But with so many types of digital marketing available, it can be hard to know where to start.

Let’s break down some of the most important types of digital marketing, how they work and why they matter.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

SEO is the process of improving your website so it ranks higher on search engines like Google and Bing. Higher rankings mean more organic (free!) traffic from people actively searching for the solutions you provide.

Why SEO Matters

· It brings long-term, sustainable traffic

· People trust organic search results more than ads

· It boosts brand authority and credibility

Key Areas Within SEO

· On-page SEO: Optimizing keywords, headlines and content

· Technical SEO: Improving site speed, structure and mobile friendliness

· Off-page SEO: Building backlinks and online reputation

· Local SEO: Targeting customers in a specific geographic area

If you want consistent, long-term growth, SEO is a must.

Digital Advertising (Paid Ads)

Digital ads, often referred to as PPC (pay-per-click) or paid media, allow businesses to place targeted advertisements across search engines, social media and websites.

Here are some common types of digital ads:

· Search ads (Google Ads, Bing Ads)

· Social ads (Meta/Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn)

· Display ads (banners across the web)

· Video ads (YouTube, TikTok, streaming platforms)

· Retargeting ads (shown to previous website visitors)

Why Digital Ads Matter

· They provide immediate visibility

· You can target highly specific audiences

· Results are measurable and scalable

Paid ads are ideal for businesses wanting fast results or promoting time-sensitive campaigns.

Email Marketing

Email marketing is one of the most effective and cost-efficient digital channels. Despite being one of the oldest forms of online marketing, it continues to outperform many newer platforms.

Some examples of email marketing include newsletters, sales promotions, automated sequences (welcome emails, abandoned cart reminders) and personalized recommendations.

Why Email Marketing Matters

· You own your list, so there’s no algorithm interference

· It’s highly personal and customizable

· It delivers one of the highest ROIs of any digital marketing strategy (for real!)

A thoughtful email strategy can build trust, inspire loyalty and convert leads to paying customers.

Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing uses platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn and Pinterest to connect with audiences, build brand awareness and drive engagement.

Two Sides of Social Media Marketing

· Organic social: Posting content, stories, reels, and engaging with your community

· Paid social: Sponsored posts, targeted ads, and influencer partnerships

Why Social Media Matters

· It humanizes your brand

· It helps build communities and loyal fans

· It’s a powerful channel for storytelling and real-time engagement

With billions of global users, social media opens the door to massive reach.

Content Marketing

Content marketing focuses on creating valuable, relevant content to attract, educate and convert your audience. Rather than pushing a hard sale, it delivers helpful information that builds trust.

Popular Content Types

· Blog posts

· Videos

· Infographics

· E-books and guides

· Podcasts

· Webinars

Why Content Marketing Matters

· It fuels SEO

· It nurtures leads throughout the buyer journey

· It establishes your brand as an authority

Strong content is the foundation of nearly every other type of digital marketing.

How These Digital Marketing Types Work Together

The most successful marketing strategies don’t rely on just one channel – they combine them.

For example:

· Content marketing creates valuable resources

· SEO helps people find that content

· Social media amplifies it to a larger audience

· Email marketing nurtures interested leads

· Digital ads bring quick traffic and boost visibility

When integrated, these channels support each other and create a powerful, cohesive strategy.

Understanding the different types of digital marketing, and which strategies work best for each organization, is key to building a strong online presence. If you’re ready to explore how you can best make an impact digitally, we’d love to connect.

Graphic Design

Visuals act as a fast language for your brand and help people recognize who you are before they read a single word. You gain trust through a professional logo and consistent colors, which makes your message stick in a crowded feed. This visual consistency makes people feel comfortable with your business, leading to better results from your digital marketing services.

Website Design

Think about how many times you’ve clicked away from a site simply because it looked outdated or confusing. Your website is your digital storefront that stays open every hour of the day to help your customers. Good layouts make navigation simple, so visitors find exactly what they want without getting frustrated. In any digital marketing consultation, the consultant will often highlight how a fast, mobile-friendly site keeps people around longer and helps your search rankings.

Video Services

Moving pictures capture interest so much faster than static text and help explain your ideas in just a few seconds. Most people prefer watching a quick clip to understand a product, which makes this medium a powerful tool for building a real connection. Working with a digital marketing agency allows you to create high-quality videos that people actually want to share with their friends.

The Importance of Integrated Digital Marketing Strategies

Success rarely comes from picking just one of these tools and ignoring the rest. Your online presence relies on lots of moving parts to grab someone’s attention. That means every one of your marketing strategies should all tell the same story at the same time. It’s this intentional coordination that prevents mixed signals and helps every dollar you spend work harder. When all the types of digital marketing you deploy work together, you’ll create a reliable experience for your audience, which turns casual browsers into loyal fans much faster.

Define the Purpose of Your Newsletter

Every strong newsletter starts with a clear purpose, because your message should accomplish something specific for your reader. So, first and foremost, you’ll need to pinpoint your exact objective. Once you fix your sights on a specific outcome, you’ll create more focused content when you know if you want to teach, share updates, spark interest, or encourage action. You’ll also give each edition more direction, which helps you create engaging newsletters that feel more intentional – and as a result, more valuable.

Your purpose will shape your structure, your topics, and the tone you use. Once you lock in the goal for each send, your content becomes easier to plan and far more effective to deliver.

Write Content That Readers Actually Want

Content that provides real-world value to your audience is essential to your email newsletter engagement. You’ll keep your subscribers interested when you share insights that help them learn something useful, solve a problem, or make a certain task easier.

Whether it’s tips, industry updates, or a unique perspective, your readers will be able to act on your message right away. Exclusive discounts or resources can strengthen trust and reward their loyalty as well. When your content delivers something meaningful each time, your audience will look forward to opening every edition.

Use Visuals Strategically

Your engaging newsletter content strategies aren’t complete unless you know how to effectively leverage strong visual communication that enhances the overall narrative. When you integrate striking, high-quality images that reinforce your message and even evoke an emotion, your newsletter will instantly capture your readers’ attention. And because visual elements can be used to cleverly separate individual sections, they provide more structure to your newsletter from a compositional standpoint, making your content easier to follow.

When all your graphics have a clear purpose and have been optimized for every kind of end-user device, your message will really pop – and the engagement will follow.

Common Newsletter Mistakes to Avoid

You likely spend a lot of time coming up with engaging newsletter content ideas to captivate your subscribers. But even the strongest content will fall flat or miss the mark if you overlook a few important details. Let’s look at some of the structural mistakes that can mix up your message and even discourage your fans:

Disregarding Mobile Optimization – A layout that doesn’t adapt to smaller screens will block engagement, so create a mobile-friendly structure that stays readable across every device.

Lack of Segmentation – Sending one message to every subscriber will make your content feel generic. Group your subscribers by their preferences to keep every message highly relevant.

Too Many CTAs – Multiple prompts will inevitably confuse your readers. Stick to one clear action that guides them toward the outcome you want.

Poor Subject Lines – A vague or misleading subject line will weaken your open rates. Keep it short, direct, and relevant to the content inside.

Broken Links – Missing or broken links can hurt your reputation in an instant. Send yourself a test email to verify every button works before your audience ever sees it.

Overwhelming Content – Long blocks of text are downright daunting! You want to break your message into smaller sections that highlight only the most important points.

We know that turning a lead into a customer doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a process that requires consistency, strategy, and – above all – value. That’s where drip campaigns come in. These automated, behavior-based emails allow you to stay in touch with leads at the right moments, so that you can deliver the right message at the right time.

Whether you’re selling a service, promoting a product, or educating prospects about your value, a smart drip campaign can make the difference between a cold lead and a warm sale.

What Is a Drip Campaign?

A drip campaign is a sequence of pre-written, automated emails sent to leads over time. The cadence, messaging and timing can be based on how the contact behaves – whether they downloaded a guide, signed up for a newsletter or just browsed your site without taking action.

Why Use Drip Campaigns?

Here’s why we’re big believers in this method:

Perfect Timing: Your messages land exactly when your prospects need them.

High Personalization: You can tailor messaging based on behavior, interests and engagement level.

Set It and Forget It: Once launched, campaigns run automatically, saving your team time and ensuring no lead goes cold.

Better Results: Drip campaigns consistently outperform one-off emails in both engagement and conversions.

How to Build a High-Impact Drip Campaign

1. Start with a Goal

What do you want this campaign to do? Convert a new subscriber? Re-engage cold leads? Promote a new service? A clear objective will shape the entire series.

2. Know Your Audience

Segment your contact lists based on factors, such as:

Funnel stage (awareness, consideration, decision)

Industry or job title

Website behavior

Content engagement history

This level of detail helps you craft messaging that resonates.

3. Design the Flow

Here’s an example of a sequence:

Email 1: Welcome message with a helpful resource

Email 2: Education (e.g., blog, video or downloadable asset)

Email 3: Social proof: testimonial, review or case study

Email 4: Highlight your offer or key differentiator

Email 5: Strong call to action or exclusive incentive

You can adjust the frequency and timing based on your sales cycle and audience behavior.

4. Write Like a Human

Each email should feel personal and helpful and not like a sales pitch. Use:

Clear subject lines

Conversational tone

One main call to action (CTA) per message

5. Launch and Learn

With tools like HubSpot or Mailchimp, you can automate your campaigns and track results by tracking metrics such as:

Open and click-through rates

Unsubscribes

Goal completions (like demo signups or purchases)

Use these metrics to refine, adjust and improve your campaigns.

Pro Tips from the JSK Marketing Team

Always A/B test subject lines and CTAs

Personalize whenever possible (first name, company, location)

Keep it mobile-friendly – over 60% of emails are read on phones

Avoid the hard sell until you’ve delivered real value

Use real success stories and testimonials to build trust

In the fast-paced world of digital marketing, it’s tempting to look for shortcuts—especially when you’re trying to grow quickly. One of the most common “quick fixes” we get asked about is buying email lists. On the surface, it seems like a good idea: thousands of contacts delivered instantly, ready to be emailed about your amazing products or services. But here’s the truth—buying email lists can be a huge risk to your brand, and more importantly, your company overall. Here’s why buying email lists could be a bad investment—and what you should do instead.

You’re Not Building a Real Audience

The contacts on purchased lists don’t know you, didn’t ask to hear from you and may not have any interest in your products or services. Your email open rates will be low, engagement will be minimal and you won’t generate meaningful leads. Email marketing is most effective when it’s targeted and permission-based—not random.

It Damages Your Sender Reputation

Email platforms like Mailchimp, HubSpot and Constant Contact actively discourage the use of purchased lists. Sending emails to people who didn’t opt in can lead to spam complaints, high bounce rates and blacklisting. Once your domain or IP address is flagged, your deliverability suffers—not just for cold lists, but for your legitimate subscribers too.

It’s (Often) a Legal Risk

Depending on where your contacts live, sending unsolicited emails can land you in legal trouble. Regulations like GDPR in Europe and CAN-SPAM in the U.S. impose strict rules on consent and opt-in requirements. Violating these laws can not only damage your company’s reputation, but it could also result in hefty fines.

You’re Wasting Money and Time

Buying an email list may feel like a good idea for a quick fix, but it often leads to longer-term headaches. You spend time crafting messages that fall flat, managing poor performance metrics and cleaning up the mess from spam complaints or bounced emails. It’s not a growth strategy—it’s a distraction and a liability.

So What Should You Do Instead?

Marketing is not just an art or a science – it’s both. We’d fall woefully short if we listed all the things wrong with buying email lists without providing solutions to growing your email marketing strategy. Here are a few ways to build a high-quality email marketing database:

If you’re in the B2B world, you’ve likely heard “You need a newsletter!” or “Email promotions drive the most conversions. Why haven’t you started one yet?” Before you can answer, you need to know the difference between the two, and why your business should care. Let’s break it down together.

What is a B2B Newsletter?

A newsletter can be compared to a check-in with your audience that is designed to keep them informed on updates, educated on new materials or services and to nurture your relationship with them – not sell. Newsletters provide value through useful content like industry insights, how-to’s or case studies. The goal is to keep your brand top-of-mind while simultaneously building trust.

For example, a tech company might send out a monthly newsletter highlighting trends in the cybersecurity space or updates on new regulations. The goal is to keep their audience informed and position themselves as a helpful resource, not a hard sell.

What are Email Promotions?

Email promotions on the other hand are all about the hard sell. They are designed to inspire action or get viewers to do something. It could be clicking to learn more about a service offering, signing up for a virtual webinar or taking advantage of a limited-time offer. Promotions are transactional and offer clear calls to action (CTAs), like “Buy Now” or “Register Today”. These are the emails that practically call out your name and say “Hey, we’ve got something super exciting for you – don’t miss out!”

Purpose

Newsletters focus on building relationships while email promotions focus on driving immediate action.

Content

Newsletters are broader and more educational. These can be quick tips, news or updates that interest your audience. Email promotions are specific and focused on products, services or campaigns. These emails have one objective in mind – getting people to convert.

Tone

Newsletters are written in a casual, conversational tone. Think of this as how you would talk to a friend or a coworker. Email promotions, however, don’t have the time or space for pleasantries. Instead, they are more direct and persuasive.

Frequency

Newsletters are often sent on a consistent schedule (quarterly, monthly or weekly). Email promotions are more likely sent on an as-needed basis.

Why They Both Matter

While each serves different purposes, they’re essential for a balanced, impactful email strategy. A newsletter will keep your audience engaged and nurture leads, while promotional emails help move the needle, getting your leads closer to a purchase decision. Here are some quick tips on how to balance the two to make them work for your goals…

Segmentation

Not every subscriber needs to receive every email you send out. Try segmenting your audience into groups. For example, you could ensure that those who are looking for thought leadership receive your newsletter and those who are ready to buy receive your email promotions.

Track Engagement

Look at open rates and click-through rates to see which type of email resonates most with which audience.

Mix It Up

Don’t bombard your audience with back-to-back promos. Space them out with newsletters in between to keep your emails feeling fresh and relevant.

A solid B2B email strategy isn’t about choosing between newsletters or email promotions – it’s about knowing when to use each. Once you master that balance, you’ll be well on your way to having an email strategy that is impactful and drives conversions.

Inboxes are busy places, and it’s not always easy to cut through all the noise. No one likes to receive an email that starts with “Dear Customer” or something equally as bland. It’s like that one-size-fits-all sweater you got as a gift. Sure, it fits, but does it really fit? The same goes for email marketing. Personalization is what gets your emails noticed (and clicked!) Let’s get into why you need to incorporate personalization in your email marketing strategy sooner than later.

Why Start?

The average person receives 121 emails a day. Emails that use their readers’ names, reference past purchases or speak directly to your interests are way more likely to grab attention. Wouldn’t you be more likely to open an email that says, “James, we’ve got something perfect for your next fall golf outing” rather than “Check out our new arrivals”? Personalization boosts your engagement and makes people feel valued like you’re really thinking about them (even if it’s all automated on the backend).

So, how do you start?

The Basics of Personalization

List Segmentation

Divide your email list into smaller groups based on shared characteristics like interests, behaviors, purchase history or demographics. This helps you send targeted, relevant content that resonates with each group instead of blasting the same message to everyone. For example, new customers might get a welcome email, while loyal customers receive exclusive offers.

Human Touch

Personalization isn’t just about throwing someone’s name in the subject line. Add a human touch by referencing past interactions, making personalized product recommendations or even sending birthday or anniversary emails. The goal is to make the customer feel like you’re paying attention to their needs and not just pushing out a sales pitch.

Automation

While personalization sounds labor-intensive, automation makes it scalable. With the right tools, you can set up workflows to automatically send personalized emails based on an action – like a thank you note after a purchase or a special discount/gift on their first anniversary with your brand. For example, when you’ve hit your one-year of being a Publix Club member, you receive a personalized congratulatory email with instructions on how to redeem your free flower bouquet. Automation ensures you’re consistently engaging customers without needing to do all the work manually.

Mistakes to Avoid

Overdoing it

Mentioning someone’s name too often can feel awkward or spammy. You don’t need to remind someone of their name in every sentence. Keep it simple and natural.

Getting it Wrong

Nothing kills the personalization mood like calling someone by the wrong name or referencing incorrect details. “Hey John! It’s been a while.” Except, your name isn’t John, and you’ve never bought from that brand. Double-check your data to avoid embarrassing slip-ups.

Ignoring Segments

Personalization without proper segmentation is like trying to write a love letter to everyone at once. Your message needs to feel tailored to them. If you try to be everything to everyone, you’ll end up connecting with no one.

Forgetting the Big Picture

Personalization is just one piece of the puzzle. You still need great content, a strong call-to-action and value-packed information. Personalization without substance won’t carry the weight.

Overall, personalization in email marketing isn’t just about tossing in a first name and calling it a day. It’s about making your customers feel like you’re speaking directly to them – and when you do, they’re far more likely to listen.

Types of Emails and Their Design Requirements

We all create emails with different goals in mind, so your layout should match the purpose every time. And your target audience will spot the difference as soon as they open the message. You’ll also stay aligned with email design trends by shaping each format around clear expectations. There are three primary types of email:

Newsletters – You can create engaging newsletters to share updates, stories, or insights in a layout that favors clear sections and an easy path through the content. You guide readers through varied topics without clutter, which boosts overall readability.

Transactional Emails – Whether it’s meant to confirm an order, reset a password, or share a time-sensitive update, a transactional type of email provides a layout that easily highlights those important details. You deliver this information in a direct way that builds trust through clear messaging and strong branding.

Promotional Emails – A promotional message highlights offers or new products in a composition that moves readers toward a single action. Placing visuals and text in a focused structure draws attention to that action with a standout CTA.

Responsive & Mobile-First Email Design

Our guide to email design wouldn’t be complete without mentioning mobile, because most readers view emails on small screens. Since everyone essentially always carries a minicomputer in their pocket, they’re more than likely to check their inbox directly from their phone. This means that it’s more important than ever to plan your email’s design with mobile view in mind before anything else. And this specific strategy forces you to focus on the most important facts – which is ultimately a good thing!

It’s best to compose your layout around short blocks, larger tap‑friendly buttons, and text that stays readable on any device. And it should always have a responsive structure that adjusts to the screen size being used. This creates a consistent experience for anyone on your subscriber list who moves between their phone, tablet, and desktop.

Accessibility in Email Design

You’ll create such stronger experience for every reader when you plan your emails with assistive technologies in mind. Sure, aligning with email marketing design trends that work well is important, but it’s equally fundamental to incorporate inclusivity. Your readers will appreciate a clear, readable structure that works for their specific visual or physical requirements. And in doing so, you’ll reach a much broader audience. Here are a few tips to consider when you want to create a message in a way that helps more readers move through your content easily:

Semantic Structure – Use specific HTML tags like headlines and paragraph markers to organize your data. This allows screen-reading tools to translate your message logic correctly for the user.

Color Contrast – Check your background and font shades against official web guidelines. Maintaining high visibility allows people with low vision to read your message without any unnecessary strain.

ALT Text – Write clear alternative text for every picture in your layout. This descriptive text conveys the meaning of your visuals to anyone who cannot view the actual graphics.

Link Clarity – Avoid vague phrases like “click here” when you add links. Instead, describe the destination clearly so readers understand exactly where the link leads before they select it.

Language Attribute – Declare your primary language within the code of your template. This setting helps assistive software use the right pronunciation and accent when reading your words aloud.

Tools & Templates for Better Email Design

When you have the right tools at your disposal, you never have to start designing your emails from scratch. That’s the beauty of modern platforms – you can simplify your production process, and your email design ideas can turn into polished, ready-to-send emails within minutes. Most email service providers offer drag-and-drop editors that streamline the building process for beginners. Or, if you want more creative freedom, specialized platforms like Stripo or BeeFree allow you to export custom HTML directly to your sender.

One of the most powerful ways to streamline your workflow is by leveraging the immense power of artificial intelligence. AI is making it easier than ever to generate subject lines and body copy in a way that keeps your brand voice consistent across campaigns and your website. And it seems to get better every single day!

What is an Email Marketing Campaign?

An email marketing campaign is a collection of emails sent over time to a targeted audience with a specific goal in mind. Successful email marketing campaigns walk their audience through a decision-making process to elicit an action-oriented response. Email marketing campaigns can be broken down into three elements: a header, body and footer. Each element is vital to maximize open and click through rates but the content within each element is just as important. Let’s break down each element to ensure that you incorporate content that enhances your campaign.

The Header

A header has the power to make or break your campaigns success as its primary role is to introduce you to your audience. A header must be accurate and professional to gain trust from the viewer. It has become increasingly challenging to prevent cyber hacks, and people are reluctant to open emails from unfamiliar senders. Sending marketing emails from a recognizable name instead of an anonymous one will dramatically increase your open and click through rate. Be sure to use both the business name and your name where it says ‘From Name’ within the email as some people might recognize you while others recognize the business.

The subject line within an email acts as the bait to “hook” viewers’ attention. Its job is to attract readers’ attention in a personal, action-oriented and honest way. Although it’s a challenge to craft a subject line that is both short and attracts your audience, it plays a crucial role in convincing them to click and see the entirety of your email. Constant Contact found that subject lines below 50 characters increased open rates by 12.5 percent and click through rates by 75 percent.

The final key in an influential header is ensuring you don’t neglect your preheader. If you don’t add a preheader, the software will take the first phrase of your email which can be extremely confusing to readers. A software generated preheader is viewed as unprofessional, leading to lack of trust from your audience. The header is all about gaining trust and interest from viewers, so keep your header short and triple check for typos!

The Body

The body within a marketing email must maintain interest from viewers and turn it into action. The body allows freedom for creativity as you can add and manipulate various elements like color, shapes, buttons and more. Be sure to place the company logo at the top of your email to increase brand awareness and professionalism. Your company logo needs to be clickable, so it leads back to your website. It’s important to maintain a consistent brand identity across all marketing emails and platforms. Details like your company logo, color scheme and fonts used must be uniform across all channels so viewers will perceive your company as reliable.

To drive viewers to take action, ensure they read the text in your emails to understand your prompts. Your audience doesn’t want to see a cluttered block of text when they open an email; they’ll simply ignore it. Storytelling is a great strategy when walking your audience through a decision-making process. Just be sure to get to the point swiftly or interest will fall off. The call to action should be placed right after an introduction in the form of a button, banner, etc. to easily catch the viewer’s eye. Always keep in mind KISS: Keep it Short and Sweet!

The Footer

The main role of the footer is to ensure compliance and maximum impact from your audience. Including social media links like Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram helps your audience keep up to date with your brand and enhances customer relationships. Incorporating an address and contact information within the footer makes your email feel more personal. Customer feedback is crucial for growth and success; if viewers can’t easily access your contact information, your efforts will fall short. Lastly, don’t forget that CAN-SPAM laws require you to offer an unsubscribe option to viewers, which can be easily integrated into the footer.

Professional, Consistent & Direct

The key to successful email marketing is first proving to your audience that you’re trustworthy and professional. Once you are labeled a credible source, the second challenge is to captivate readers’ attention. Finally, you must demand your readers take action and evoke a sense of urgency within your message. Time is limited, so it’s crucial that your email is perceived as valuable enough to justify the opportunity cost for viewers.

Email is a huge part of our daily lives. Whether it’s for work, staying in touch with old friends or managing your endless stream of subscriptions and Amazon orders, email is everywhere. But how many do you actually look forward to reading? Not that many, right? So, how do you make sure your emails don’t end up ignored or marked as junk? Here are five psychological tactics that can help you create emails that people will want to open and read.

Show Reader’s What They’re Missing

FOMO (fear of missing out) is real. When you highlight what your readers could be missing out on, it grabs their attention. Start your email off by mentioning a key benefit or an intriguing piece of information that they might not have known about before. Common opening phrases begin with, “Did you know,” “What if…” or “Why”? This tactic creates curiosity and makes your readers want to continue reading to find out what they’re missing out on.

Social Proof

In general, we humans like to follow the crowd. We’re all influenced by what others think and do. When we see a movie, we opt in for the box office hits. When we see a new Instagram reel trend, we must partake (and do it better). This is a psychological bias called social proof. When we read or see that someone has benefited from something, we immediately want in on it. For example, here are two reads, one is controlled, and one contains social proofing:

Controlled Variant: “Check out this new tool!”

Social Proof Variant: “Over 1,000 marketers found this tool helpful!”

Which one would you lean more towards?

Showcase Scarcity

Taylor Swift’s concert tickets sell out in a matter of seconds – not just because she’s the most well-known pop singer worldwide, but because her tickets are hard to come by. However, Swiifties aren’t the only ones to experience scarcity. Scarcity entices a sense of urgency and prompts one to take action immediately. By utilizing phrases like “Limited-Time,” “Today Only,” or “This Exclusive Offer Ends Soon,” in your emails, you’re prompting your readers to take action while they still can, resulting in increased open rates, engagement and conversions.

Give Before Asking

People naturally want to reciprocate what they receive. If you offer something of value first – like a helpful tip, a free trial or a discount – they’re likely to respond positively to your request. Providing free content is also effective. This can include a newsletter, free downloadable pdfs, social media content or informative articles that offer insights or solutions to your recipients’ pain points. Be genuine and provide value.

Speak Directly to Them

Did you know 98% of marketers cite personalization as a major factor that improves their relationships with their customers? Think about the last time you got an email that felt as though it was written just for you. It felt good, right? By addressing your readers by name or referencing any past interactions you’ve had can make them feel important and significant. It shows you’re not just sending a mass email but that you value them as an individual.

Mastering email communication isn’t just about getting your message across; it’s about building a genuine connection with your readers. The goal is to engage, inform and inspire action. With these strategies, people will not only read your emails but look forward to receiving them.
