<p><span data-contrast="auto">For many entrepreneurs, growth feels like riding a rollercoaster in the dark—fast, thrilling, and slightly terrifying. But for Jenn Kjellman, President and founder of JSK Marketing, 2024 was the year she decided to buckle up and bring in some of the brightest minds in Jacksonville to ride with her. How? By applying for the ATHENAPowerLink® program through the Jacksonville Women’s Business Center </span><span data-contrast="auto">and was selected as the latest recipient. </span><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">“I knew we were in a season of hyper-growth,” Jenn said. “And I also knew we needed help – real expertise in areas we weren’t as proficient in. The program offered an opportunity to tap into that at a high level, all at once.”</span><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">When Jenn got the call that she’d been selected as the ATHENAPowerLink® recipient, she was truly humbled. “There were so many qualified woman-owned businesses in Jacksonville, and to be chosen was an incredible honor,” she shared. “To be recognized by such a prestigious governing body was humbling and motivating.”</span><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">Going into the year-long program, Jenn expected a challenge. What she didn’t expect was just how deep the transformation would go. Her ATHENAPowerLink® advisory panel – made up of mentors handpicked for their expertise in finance, government contracting, legal/HR and strategic growth – was more than a resource. They became a trusted circle of advisors who not only offered information but also made valuable introductions and gave Jenn the confidence to lead more boldly. </span><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">With her panel’s guidance, Jenn led JSK Marketing through several key pivots – each one more impactful than the last. One major shift was to pursue work in the public sector and to focus on local government contracting before jumping into the deeper waters of state and federal bids. Another big win was restructuring HR policies to better reflect JSK’s growth and ensure both protection and clarity across the board. And perhaps most powerfully, refining their project management software to handle high-volume workloads more efficiently, setting the team up for long-term success. </span><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">But the most meaningful turning point wasn’t about business at all. Four months into the program, Jenn gave birth to twins. “It was wild timing,” she laughed. “But the board stepped up in a way that changed everything for me. They helped me prioritize, delegate and get out of my way.” That moment of support and strategy became a catalyst, not just for Jenn’s leadership but for JSK’s trajectory. The business grew 30% last year.</span><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">There were plenty of takeaways, but one stood out above the rest: </span><i><span data-contrast="auto">trust your gut</span></i><span data-contrast="auto">.</span><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">“Every mentor brought incredible advice, but they also reminded me that no one knows this business like I do,” Jenn stated. “At the end of the day, I had to trust myself – and that was a huge growth point.”</span><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">Through ATHENAPowerLink®, Jenn also gained something a lot of business owners often crave but rarely claim… confidence. “Imposter syndrome is real, especially for women entrepreneurs. The program affirmed that I do have what it takes – that our vision, our services and our team are worth betting on,” she said. “And I learned that working on the business is just as important as working in it.”</span><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Jenn has received multiple awards and recognitions for her community involvement and exceptional leadership. Her list of recognitions includes being named among the Jacksonville Jaguars Professional Leaders in JAX, Jacksonville Chambers&#8217; Hightower Emerging Leaders Fellowship and receiving the Bold City Best’s Best New Business award. Additionally, she has been recognized as a member of the Jacksonville Women’s Business Center Advisory Board, Jacksonville Women’s Network, and most notably, as the 2023 Jax Chamber Health Council Small Business Leader of the Year.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Jenn earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism with a focus in public relations from Georgia State University in 2012. Following graduation, Jenn became the College Development Director for CARE for AIDS. She then advanced her corporate career from intern to Marketing Communications Project Coordinator for Chick-fil-A at their corporate headquarters in Atlanta. Jenn relocated to Jacksonville, where her career continued as she became the National Marketing Director for Dream Finders Homes before becoming the Vice President of Marketing for Quorum Health Resources. Jenn left the corporate world and founded JSK Marketing in 2019.</p>

The grand opening event celebrated the new two-story, 3,152-square-foot, designer-decorated model home, the Roseberry Elite by Toll Brothers. The community promotion event featured family-friendly activities at every model home in the community and attracted more than 350 visitors. The Realtor promotional event featured a scavenger hunt and social media photo contest and welcomed more than 230 real estate professionals including many who had never visited the community. Both events generated tremendous interest and attracted many new visitors to the Beacon Lake community.</p>

<p>JSK Marketing officially launched in early 2019. The dream, however, came to fruition much earlier. JSK President &amp; Founder, Jenn Kjellman, was just a college student when the seed that sprouted into JSK Marketing was planted. Jenn attended Georgia State University in the business hub of Atlanta, GA in pursuit of her BA in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Hospitality Administration.</p>
<p>Embarking on this pursuit with the passion for bringing the vision of others to life, she already had her heart set on utilizing her talents in order to make an impact on the lives of those in need by way of starting her own business. Thus, the dream of what would one day become JSK Marketing was born.</p>
<h3>Growing Aspiration</h3>
<p>Following graduation, Jenn began her career on the event side of marketing where she was physically manifesting the vision of others into that of planned events. Although, as her career continued, she noticed a particular interest in the area of digital marketing. The ability to use technology to track personalized statistics based on digital interaction was an appealing concept to her. One of which she would carry for many years to come.</p>
<p>As time went on, Jenn’s long-established aspiration of becoming an entrepreneur through her own marketing business was continuing to grow. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, becoming one herself was practically in her blood. After about a decade of bringing other’s visions to life, it was about time she did the same for herself.</p>
<h3>The Foundation</h3>
<p>As Jenn started to plan what starting a business would entail, it wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine. She had to wrestle with the fear that her business may fail, which was particularly difficult after being blessed with years of relatively consistent success. Many new businesses struggle to make it past their first year, and her last desire was to be yet another business added to the list.</p>

These four barriers are cynicism, skepticism, procrastination, and price. Each of these barriers is reasons customers may not buy your product or service. It is important to know the psychology behind what helps customers purchase to ensure you leave no room for customers not to purchase. This blog will help define these four psychological barriers and help you understand how to address them.</p>



<h5 class="wp-block-heading">Cynicism Barrier</h5>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">People, who have the cynicism psychological barrier often ask themselves “Do I need this product/service?” This barrier is apparent when the person you’re pitching to doesn’t believe he or she has a problem to solve right away. If this type of consumer doesn’t immediately get WHY they should care when they visit your website, read your blog, or see an ad, they will just click away from or skim over it. In order to get this type of consumer to care, you might have to work a little bit harder.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is important to align your products and services with a problem or desire your prospects actually care about. One way to do this is by identifying your prospect’s pain points. They will more likely give your business a chance when they see HOW what you sell satisfies their problems or wants. In order to gain a cynical consumer as a customer, you must build trust. Establishing your business as an authority in your industry and sharing customer reviews on your website are great ways to help build that trust with this type of consumer.</p>



<h5 class="wp-block-heading">Skepticism Barrier</h5>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">People, who have the skepticism psychological barrier often ask themselves “Does this product/service actually work?” There are two types of objections that skeptical consumers often face &#8212; feeling-driven objections and thought-driven objections. It is your job to make these prospects overcome these objections in order to have them go through your sales process. Feeling-driven objections are objections that come from emotions. Consumers that are skeptics say to themselves “It doesn’t feel right.” It is your job to take this objection and turn it around into an opportunity by showing them a solution. Thought-driven objections, for example, make the consumer say “It seems too risky.” It is important to validate their point of view and come up with a solution that reminds them that your business has a product or service that can address their problems or add significant value to them.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Trust is the biggest barrier for skeptic consumers. They might doubt your company’s expertise or track record. Skeptics already want what you&#8217;re selling, but they are not sure if they can trust you just yet. In order to do that, it is your responsibility as a business to show them why or how they can trust you. Offering proof that your product or service works and how they can get the results they want by buying is the key way to transform skeptics into customers.</p>



<h5 class="wp-block-heading">Procrastination Barrier</h5>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">People who have the procrastination psychological barrier often ask themselves “I can always buy later… what’s the rush?” For whatever reason, they don’t see why purchase from your business has to happen right now, so they put it off. Scammer tactics such as stating there is only one more item left, for example, makes consumers feel too pressured and manipulated. If someone finds out these tactics are a lie, it could potentially ruin your business’s credibility. This may work for some companies, however, this is not the best way to make a procrastinator buy from you. A better way to make a procrastinator go through your sales funnel is by showing them how acting now is to their benefit. By giving these types of consumers an incentive when they buy your product or service now, they are likely to act faster than they would have without that incentive.</p>



<h5 class="wp-block-heading">Price Barrier</h5>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">People who have the price psychological barrier often tell themselves “It costs too much.” When it comes to pricing your product, it can be very difficult to feel confident in knowing what feels right in the eyes of your consumer (and versus your competition) and what they’ll be willing to pay. It can be even more difficult to know how an increase or decrease in price could affect your sales/profit. Consumers with these barriers are looking for a reason not to buy, therefore it is critical you show them the reasons they should buy a product or service from you. Showing them the value of what you offer and the return on investment they will get after purchasing from you is a great way to combat price barriers. Products and services frequently have customary prices in the minds of consumers. A customary price is one that customers identify with particular items. If you do the math on how much your service or product actually costs and share that with your prospects, then they will likely drop the price objection and buy from you.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Whatever industry your business may be in, you are more than likely to encounter prospects or consumers that will have one or more of these psychological barriers. It’s important to focus on how each of these barriers can be addressed and switch up your marketing campaigns, website, blog posts, or advertisements accordingly. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Every little girl has a dream. Jenn&#8217;s dream was to own a business. When she was younger, she wasn&#8217;t sure what that business would be. After a decade in corporate America, she decided it was time to make her dream come true… bringing JSK Marketing to life!</p>



<h5 class="wp-block-heading">Why do you think you always dreamed of being an entrepreneur?</h5>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I was raised by my grandparents, who both owned their own businesses. I believe that when you grow up in that environment, it just seems like owning a business is the natural thing to do. My grandma is still an incredibly successful business owner. She&#8217;s always been my role model and is my reminder that anything is possible on a hard day. Watching them pursue their dream my whole life, I knew I wanted that same dream for myself.</p>



<h5 class="wp-block-heading">Why does marketing get you excited?</h5>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I love the psychology behind marketing. Studying trends and why people make certain decisions has always intrigued me. I have also always been a dreamer and a creative, so marketing allows me to not only tap into those natural skillsets but continuously explore my curiosity behind human behavior as well.</p>



<h5 class="wp-block-heading">What makes you different than other marketing consultants?</h5>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Honestly, there are hundreds of people skilled in my area. My passion for what I do makes me unique. When I invest in a project or company, I fully immerse myself. I aim to be an extension of your team rather than outside counsel. The relationships I have with the organizations I partner with are my number one priority. I also ensure that I take a unique approach with each client; marketing should never be one-size-fits-all. I believe this relational intentionality with my clients sets me apart from others in my profession.</p>



<h5 class="wp-block-heading">When you&#8217;re not creating and dreaming about expanding brands, what do you love to do?</h5>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you know me, you know spending time with my family and friends and traveling the world are my two greatest passions. I&#8217;ve always said that I work so that I can travel, especially when I have my sweet husband alongside me for the ride.</p>
